Abstract
For many years , beating heart surgery was the only possiple approach before the advent of CPB .
Although,the advantages of CPB , postoperative complications following it , has continued to be a major concern . So revival of interest in performing CABG on beating heart had returned .
During the last decade , application of epidural anesthesia in cardiac surgery has gained much interest because of the potential advantages, the technique can offer .
These advantages , including improved analgesia, attenuation of response to surgical stress, improved distribution of coronary blood flow, reduced oxygen demand, improved postoperative respiratory function and faster recovery of awareness .
