Abstract

The present study was carried out during 2005 and 2006 seasons on ”Crimson seedless” grapes, to evaluate the effect of dormant pruning date in combination with bud load, summer pruning and soil coloured plastic film mulches on yield and quality of ”Crimson seedless” grapes. The effect of dormant pruning date in combination with bud loads evaluated through the effect on date of bud burst, full bloom and harvest wood ripening coefficient (WRC), weight of wood pruning, leaf area, fruiting buds %, shoot length, shoot diameter, yield attributes and fruit quality. It is clear from the obtained data that the best time of dormant pruning was 1st of Feb. to obtain the proper time of harvest. Crimson seedless grape vine and it is clear also that, pruning of ”Crimson seedless” grapes on 1st Feb. with 84 or 108 buds/ vine are favorable to improve yield and quality of this cultivar. The second part of study dealing the effect of summer pruning on improving yield and colouration of ”Crimson seedless”. Data of this part showed that all summer pruning treatments namely head suckering (HS), pinching the main shoots and maintaining laterals (PM), pinching the main shoots and topping laterals (PT)and pinching the main shoots and removing laterals (PR) were significantly effective in improving yield attributes compared with unpruned, vines. Different types of summer pruning significantly increased anthocyanin pigment content in Crimson seedless grapes berry skin. The best treatment were pinching the main shoots and topping laterals. The third part dealing the effect of various coloured plastic film mulches on yield and quality of ”Crimson seedless” coloured plastic polyethylene types were silver black polyethylene, silver brown polyethylene, black polyethylene, transparent polyethylene, white polyethylene, red polyethylene, yellow polyethylene and uncovered vines. Data of this part showed that silver brown polyethylene type was superior than other types in improving yield and quality of ”Crimson seedless” grapes.
