Abstract

This work was done to study the epidemiology of Foot and outh Disease (FMD) in some selected governorates in Egypt (Behera,Alexandria,Suez,Matruh, Assuit, Aswan and Fayoum).
The plan of this study was devided into three main ( aspects, the first one was carried to study the 1987 outbreak in Assuit and Behera governorates. from Assuit, 40 sera samples were collected from infected cattle in add— ition to 15 samples collected from contact animals which
had no clinical symptoms of the disease (apparenly healthy). While from Behera province , 20 sera samples were collected from infected female buffaloes and 10 samples from contact ani4 mals (apparently healthy) . These sera samples were subjected
to VIA and SNT . The second aspect was an epidemiological
survey on cattle,buffaloes and sheep using serum neutralization , indirect complement fixation and VIA tests
on 3357 sera samples (1657 cattle, 900 buffaloes and 800
I sheep) . Also 200 sera samples were chosen from Alexandria
governorate to be tested with ELISA technique and comp are with serum neutralization test. The last aspect was
an experimental one where 5 cattle were vaccinated with the
j monovalent formalized locally prepared vaccine.Sera samples 4 were collected daily for 7 days, then every three days up
