Abstract
Ivomec is one of the broad spectrum anthelminitic drugs (fasciolicides and parasiticides) used in veterinary field.
The aim of the present work was to study some of the pharmacological effects of ivomec F® on male rats. Those were assessed by evaluation of the haematological parameters, determination of some enzymatic functions of liver and kidneys, and studying the histological changes induced by the drug.
In this work 40 mature male albino rats were divided into two equal groups each of 20 rats. The first group was injected subcutaneously with a single dose of Ivomec F® (ivermectin 0.35 mg/kg b.wt. and clorsulon 3.5mg/kg b.wt). The second group was kept as a control and injected with saline. Five rats from each of the injected and control groups were sacrified after 1st, 2w’, 4th and 8th week from drug administration.
The obtained results are summarized as follows.
I. Reproductive studies:
1. The effect of Ivomec F® on weight of male reproductive organs and other organs of rat:
Rats injected subcutaneously with a single dose of Ivomec F® (clorsulon 3.5 mg/kg b.wt. and ivermectin 0.35 mg/kg b.wt.) showed a significant decrease in testes weight after 8I week,, in prostate gland weight after 2, 4 and 8th week, in seminal vesicle weight after 2’” and 4th week, and in epididymal fat body weight after 4” week. Meanwhile, there were no significant changes in the epididymis, liver, kidney and spleen weights post subcutaneous injection
2. The effect of Ivomec F on epididymal sperm characters:
Male rats treated with ivornec F showed insignificant changes in the percentage of sperm cell count, the :gresse a o pera1s and sperm cell abnormalities all over the difficent peiods of the experiment
II Biochemical studies
1. Effect of Ivomec F on AST and Alt in sera:
Male rats injected with Ivomec F – showed a significant increase in AST in sera after 2nd and 4th week Also there a significant increase in the level of ALT in sera Jter arid \uek from drug administration, meanwhile there were signifai m the seum level of ALT during the other periods of experiment.
2. Effect of Ivomec F on serua Creatinine level:
There were insignificant changes in serum creatinine level after ivomec F® injection in male rats.
