Abstract

The third compartment of’ the stomach of 22 camel—fetuseS, ranging between CRL 0.8 85 cm, were investigated. In the youngest specimen (8 mm CRL), the stomach is a spindle—shaped structure. The epithelium in this prinaordiutfl was pseudostratified columnar. Then it changed to stratified columnar (CRL 2 cm). The gastric foveolae (pits) were firstly observed in the terminal part (fundic and pyloric regions) in the CRL 7 cm—fetus. In the cardiac region they appeared later (CL 9.5 cm — tubular passage).
The first differentiated glandular cells appear to be the parietal cells. They were firstly seen in he CRL 29 cm— fetus, meanwhile the chief cells followed later, at the CRIJ 53 cm—fetal stage. The neck mucous cells were the last to occur (CRL 56 cm—fetus).
The well differentiated surface epitheliurn was observed firstly in the cardiac region in the CRL 24 cm—fetus, then in the pyloric region of the CRL 36 cm— and finally in the fundic region of the CRL 36 cm—fetal stage.
The pyloric gland is the first one to be well developed, followed by the cardiac gland and finally by the fundic one.
