Abstract
In the present work, eighteen adult California rabbits (12 females and 6 males), weighing 2.5 — 3.5 kg. and about 4— 5 months old, were used. These rabbits were grouped in order to study the pathological effects of the experimental toxoplasmosis, by using avirulent strain of Toxoplasma gondii, on both female and male rabbits. The inoculum of toxoplasma cysts was prepared from brain emulsions of mice, which wasinoculated intraperitoneally with toxoplasma organisms. Another group of mice was used for the clinico—pathological test for detection of toxoplasma organisms in the tissues of the infected rabbits. Female rabbits were divided according to the time of inoculation, either before mating, during the first two third of pregnancy or during the last third of pregnancy.
The clinical signs of the infected rabbits were generally signs of illness and then progressed by either abortion or stillbirth of pregnant cases or some neurological signs of dullness and paralytic changes in limbs of other non—pregnant females and also male rabbits.
