Abstract A total riumbr o 14U ifl Tiipi arid 70 catfish) were collected from Ghaat El—Enab and El—kabary drains (35 catfish and 35 Tilapia from each area) .Forty fish (20 fish from both species of each areas)were used for residual analysis of some heavy metals (cadmium, iron, lead and copper). One hundred fish (50 fish from both species of each area) were used for the pathological investigations. Also water samples were collected from the two areas of the lake to determine the level of these heavy metals. Determination of the heavy metals was carried out by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Except for the copper, the levels of the tested heavy metals were above the acceptable limits either in tissues or water, particularly the iron. The pathological lesions due to the joint effect of these heavy metals were nearly similar in fish collected from the two areas. The gross lesions were darkening of the skin, presence of mucous layer on the gills besides congestion of the internal organs. Microscopically, the most severe in both the gills and skin but were also detected in the internal organs. The gill lesions as a general were in the form of congestion, oedema. hemorrhages and lymphocytic infiltrations of the gill arch besides hyperplastic. |
