The a im of the present work was to assess i lie suppressive effects of morphine sulphate fnnip.it ni with those of but orphanol tar I.a rate, on the response i o endotracheal intubation with increasing dn.scn m both drugs as regards ; arterial PI ood pressure changes i.sv.sinl ic diast ol i c , and mean art or I al bl ood pressure > , hour t rate changes , tearing , coughi ng , and siroin i no *Atropi ne su 1 phate 0. 6 liigm . and diazepam in mom . were injected intramuscularly in all patients one hour pr i or to i nduct ion of anaesthesia . Anal gesia was acni eved by mo r phi ne su I pi mi •■ or butorphano1 tartarate i njected i ntravenous Iy in doses corresponding to the relative subgroups . Induction of anaesthesia was aciii eved by a sleeping dose of thi open tone sodium (4-7 mgm/kgm body we I glii > . in tubat i on was carried out after adequate re I OKat i on by sue c i ny l choline in a dose of J mgm/kgm bodv wiunhi fol 1 owed by full oxygenat i on of the pat i ent The following parameters were recorded ; blood pressure values < systo1ie , diast oli c , and mean arterial) , and heart rate . Recording of these paramoiers was done before i ntubat i on ,’ then 30 , o0 , MO arid 1 210 seconds after tntubat ion Tearing , coughing , and si raining WIJI e nii.vi vi-il during intubation , and immediately -after . in all subgroups , the cardiovascular parameter’s showed signi f icanr increase 30 seconds after i nt.ubat i or; with gradual decrease to nearly their initial values 120 seconds after intubation , Statisti cal anaiysi s of data obta i nerl showed si gn i f i cant, di fferences aniongest the i nd i v idua 1 rnorph i ne subgroups . Similar findings were observed with but orphan o) .subgroups . However . statistical com pari sun between each morphine subgroup and i ts correspond i rig butorphanol subgroup revealed no si gn i f i cant di f ferenee Tear i tig : r* All patients (100%> included in morphine subgroup ”l” responded to i ntubat ion by the product i on of tears , compared wi th 6 pat ients i n subgroup ”2” . However , noreof the patients in subgroup ”3” responded to i ntubat i on by tear i tig Pat i ent.s of butorphanol subgroups who showed tearing in response to i ntubat’t on were 4 , A and ft in subgroup l , 2 , and 3 respectively . Coughing : Coughing was not recorded as a react: ion to in tuba r.i on , but there was a de I ayed return of cough ref 1 ex on recovery with ’3 patients of frutorphanoi subgroup ”3” - Stra ining ,; *** Straining was not observed a.s u react, ion to intubation in any of.our patient.s . |
