Abstract

The present study was performed in order to investigate the various affections which may occur in the lymphoid organs of slaughtered ruminant animals at Alexandria province. The aim in this work was to detect and describe the observed affections not to make survey for these cases. The examined cases reached to a total number of 25450 ruminant animals (6260 buffaloes, 1500 cows, 2840 buffalo- calves, 6400 cow-calves and 8450 sheep). These animals were slaughtered at Abdel-Khader slaughterhouse, Alexandria Province. During the routine inspection for these slaughtered animals any lymphatic affections in either lymph nodes or spleen were recorded, described and subjected for specimen collection and following histopathologic techniques for examination.
The detected lesions of lymphatic affections were seen in those cases of buffaloes, cows, buffalo-calves and ewes. Some of the observed lesions in the lymph nodes of buffalo cases were in the form of lymphoid hyperplasia with variable degrees of enlargement in the prescapular lymph nodes. In other cases, diffuse suppurative lymphadenitis, congestion and edema, caseous lymphadenitis and lymphoid hyperplasia were seen in the mesentric lymph nodes. Some of the hepatic lymph nodes were affected by only lesions of congestion and hemosiderosis. The more advanced and severe affections were seen in the supramammary lymph nodes where tuberculous lymphadenitis, focal and diffuse suppurative lymphadenitis, atrophy, fibrinous lymphadenitis, congestion, edema and eosinophilic infiltrations were seen.
