Abstract The aim of this work is to compare between in vitro fertilization with embryo transfer (IVF-ET),and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)in treating cases of unexplained Infertility. Also, to compare the outcome of IVF-ET between cases of unexplained infertility and tube infertility, and ICSI between cases of unexplained infertility and male infertility. We came to two main conclusions regarding the use of assisted reproductive technology for unexplained infertility that : First conclusion : Both IVF-ET and ICSI were as successful in cases of unexplained infertility as in the classic indications of these treatment modalities (IVF-ET for tubal factor infertility and ICSI for male factor infertility). However, the success rates were higher in cases of tubal infertility reflecting the possibility of gamete problems in the etiologist of unexplained infertility. The incidences of fertilization may be slightly higher with ICSI . However, the results after conventional IVF-ET are comparable with ICSI. Although ICSI may avoid the risk of complete fertilization failure, we cannot reach the conclusion that ICSI is the answer for all cases of unexplained infertility requiring assisted reproductive technology because ICSI is an invasive procedure and bypasses the natural mechanisms against abnormal embryo development Moreover, it is more expensive and requires more technical experience and time. |
