Abstract

Metabolic and cellular profile tests were carried out on 1371 uncastrated buffaloe calves up 8- 10 months old. They were distributed among seven fattening stations belonging to Ministry of Defense situated in newly reclaimed and desert area in Tall-Kabeer district, just eastern of Nile Delta-Egypt. They collected from the Egyptian Company for Meat and Milk Production by means of trucks and raised for fattening purposes.
This work was carried out on two studies, preliminary and clinical studies. I) Preliminary study: Aimed to evaluate the concentration of certain blood serum and cellular components of fattening calves allover fattening period. During this study blood samples and ruminal samples were taken at early, mid and later stages of fattening (12 months with two months intervals ). 1. Serum analysis: Serum calcium levels showed relatively little variability over the fattening period, the mean was slightly decrease (9.66±O.29 mg/dl) during the mid stage of fattening followed by an increase 9.97±O.18 mg/dl at the end of fattening period with an overall mean value of 9.55±OAO mg/dl.
