Abstract A descriptive comparative study was conducted on 150 nurses working at Menoufiya University hospitals, Shebin El-Kom Teaching Hospitals, National Liver Institute at Menoufiya University and MCH centers (Kebly and Bahary) of Shebin El-Kom City. The selected nurse working at pediatrics departments or Maternity new-born care units or at MCH centers, where these nurses cared with children and their families. The aims of this study were to: 1.Assess the knowledge of nurses in pediatric, maternity-newborn care and MCH settings about basic counseling strategies. Assess the knowledge of nurses in pediatric, maternity-newborn care and MCH settings about genetic counseling. Identify role of nurses in counseling parents of children with hereditary diseases.Questionnaire interview sheet used to fulfill the aims of this study : An interview questionnaire sheet was designed by the investigator after reviewing related references, it consisted six parts:Part I: Included biosocial characteristics of nurses, as age, sex, marital status, job title, Part II: It contained nurses knowledge about the counseling strategies. Part III: included Likert scale for assessment of nurses attitude toward genetic counseling. |
