Abstract

The present study was conducted to demonstrate the ectoparasites infesting some rreshwater fishes in Behera Province, Egypt during the period extending from February 2006 o January 2007.
The present study was performed on 600 fishes collected from Nile resources, Rashid branch, fish farms as well as markets of Edfma Behera Province, Egypt, and were represented by 200 from each of the following species (Oreochromis spp), (Claraias lazera) and (Silver arp). And the total infestation rate was rate 87.3 %.
It was found that, Oreochromis spp the most susceptible species to parasitic infestation howing the highest rate (99 %) followed by Silver carp. (97 %), while the lowest infestation te showed in Clarias lazera (66%).
On other hand the seasonal dynamics of ectoparasitic infestation demonstrated that the eak of infestation was recorded during winter (98%) followed by autumn (87.3%), spring 82.7 %) while the lowest was during summer (81.3 %). In addition to Oreochromis spp. enoted the highest infestation rate during spring, summer and autumn at the same percent 100%) while the lowest was during winter (96) while Clarias lazera showed the maximum te during winter (98) and silver carp obtained the peak of infestation during winter and utumn at the same level (100%).
Regarding the incidence of ectoparasites it was showed that Protozoan parasites edominated the other ectoparasites where it recoded the highest incidence (72.33 %) among e examined fish species, followed by, Monogentic treinatodes (58.58 %) while the estation rate with crustacea was the lowest (3.44 %).
The results demonstrated 17 Ectoparasites from the gills and fins as well as rnprabranchial organs. These parasites were:
Trichodina truttae, Trichodina cogwheeli, Trichodina calfornica, Trichodina fultoni, Chilodonella hexastica, Apiosoma spp., Ambiha spp., Henneguya branchialis, Myxobolus pheroida1is, Myxobolus dermatobia, Macrogyrodactylus clarii, Quadriacanthus kearni, ich1idogyrus Arthacanthus, Gyrodactylus elegans, Gyrodactylus groshofti, Schilbetrema pp., and Lamproglena. mondi
Moreover this study demonstrated that Schilbetrema spp. was collected from gills of [ver carp this host was not recorded previously to be infested by that parasite.
