Abstract Electric earthing is a crucial issue for the protection of humans and equipment against electric discharge. Facilities such as hospitals, power stations, oil plants, etc. require a reliable and operational earthing systems for this operation. Traditional earthing systems are exposed to damage due to natural processes and human behavior (i.e. cutting or theft). The objective of this work is to investigate Electrically Conductive Concrete (ECC) by used available local materials and study the affect on different properties and durability to apply it in electrical and structural co-applications. The scope of this study included available local materials such as steel shavings, carbon powder and graphite powder, as replacement from the amount of aggregate, also included different percentages of additives to determine the optimum percent to use in for electrical and structural co-applications. Experimental program is designed from three groups according to additive material (steel shavings - carbon powder - graphite powder) in addition to the control mix for comparison, and then four different mixes were prepared for every additive material according to the used percentage. The performance of fresh concrete evaluated by measuring slump and air content, and compressive, tensile and bond strengths, and corrosion and abrasion resistance for hardened concrete to 90 day, the electrical properties of (ECC) evaluated by measuring DC & AC conductivity at (50 HZ) in x, y and z directions. from the discussion of the test results obtained in the research, the steel shaving, carbon powder and graphite powder can be used for improve the electrical conductivity for concrete mixes, where (ECC) is structurally fit for use in construction. Also the study recommended a table was organized to evaluate the all measured properties to determine the fit mix according to the requirement properties in application. |
