Abstract

Papillomaviruses are a group of viruses which are characteristically epitheliotropic and cause proliferate lesions in infected epidermal or mucosal epithelia. They are commonly designated wart viruses, although many members of the group induce discrete lesions that differ histologically from common warts.
Human papillomaviruses are DNA viruses, the genome is about 7.2-8.0 kbp, and is divided into early and late, regulatory region.
Over 75 genotypes have now been detected and sequenced. Papillomaviruses are divided into two groups: coetaneous and mucosal.
Some of the mucosal types of human papillomaviruses are associated with cytological changes in the cervix uteri which can progress to cancer.
Genital types of papillomaviruses are classified according to their risk factor for developing cervical carcinoma into; high risk types (e.g. 16,18,31,45), moderate risk types (33,35,39,51,52,56,58,59,66) and low risk types (6,11,26,42,34,44,53,54,55,62 and 66).
This study based was on molecular detection, and, DNA grouping of HPV in the sixty cases of pre-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions in the cervix uteri using PCR method.
Tissue samples were obtained from fixed paraffin embedded blocks, examined microscopically , and classified
