Abstract The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of various dermatological diseases in the pediatric field among the patients attending the Dermatology outpatient clinic of EL-Minia University Hospital. In conclusion, the present study may be beneficial as a pilot study for the prevalence of pediatric skin diseases in Egypt. Of these results obtained, it is now clear that the pediatric group constitutes 44.24 % of the whole attendants of the Dermatology out patient clinic, and this is a very huge percent that must lead us to this age group. Since children account for approximately 45 % of the population in the developing countries and because this age group shows the highest prevalence rates for the infectious diseases, this group should be selected as a ”target” population in Egypt. Infections constituted 76.99 % of PDD. Bacterial infections were the most common (39.22 %) followed by ectoparasitic infections (25.21 %), Fungal infections (8.16 %) and viral infections (4.39 %). Some measures could be taken that might reduce the transmission frequency that include; reducing the over crowding in houses, installing an indoor water supply, distributing medical resources more efficiently, educating the population on health matters, and holding massive treatment campaigns. |
