Abstract The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy, safety and durability of TUVP with the conventional TURP in the treatment of patients with BPH. Summary and conclusions: Based on our preliminary findings, a low intraoperative and perioperative morbidity, a rapid convalescence time and short hospital stay and the simplicity of the procedure make TUVP a potentially useful, safe and versatile tool in the therapeutic armamentarium of BPH. Because of its unique electrosurgical properties, higher risk patients can be treated successfully by this technique. Our early experience leaves us cautiously optimistic; however, a longer follow up with a larger number of patients will be essential to determine the durability of TUVP as a treatment for symptomatic BPH. It should be emphasized that electro vaporation should be viewed as an alternative method to be used beside the gold standard transurethral resection of the prostate. |
