Abstract HEV is a feco-orally transmitted hepatotropic virus; it is endemic in the Indian subcontinent, central Asia and Middle-East. The disease is age dependent, infected young children often pass asymptomatic (subclinical infection). Consumption of fecally contaminated drinking water is the predominant mode of transmission of epidemic HEV infection, person-to-person transmission is uncommon. Our study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence of HEV IgG antibodies among 300 infants and children aged 0-12 years, chosen from those attending the outpatient clinic at University children’s hospital (El-Shatby). A cross sectional study was conducted and all study population was submitted to the following: 1- Pre-structured questionnaire. 2- Sera collection for detection of anti-HEV IgG antibodies using ELIS A technique. |
