Abstract

Poultry plays an important role in our national income which fulfill our needs from animal protein. Avian Borreliosis is considered a serious diseases and immunology causes high losses among affected birds and because Borrelia anserina has no similar antigenic structure so monovalent vaccine is not usually successful. The present study was planned to isolate different isolates and choose the highly antigenic one to make a potent polyvalent vaccine to control the disease.
The study was planned to spotlight on:
1. Microscopic examination of blood samples from ducks and geese
2. Isolation, attempts to cultivate and preserve Borrelia anserina.
3. Determination of antigenicity of Borrelia anserina isolates.
4. RAPD -PCR technique to compare these isolates.
5. Trials to prepare polyvalent vaccine from various isolates to control Borreliosis in ducks and geese.
The obtained results could be summarized as follows:
I.Eight isolates of Borrelia anserina were secured from sixteen localities distributed allover Sharkia Governorate. These isolates were kept as infected citrated blood in the refrigerator at 4°C and serially passaged through ducks every 4 weeks .
