Abstract

to evaluatethe clinical and radioloical results of the surgical treatment of adult lumbar and/or lumbosacral spondyloisthesis using posterolateral fusion and pedicle-screw system fixation
Spondylolisthesis is defined as a slipping forward of one vertebra on another .It is present in 5 % of adult population .
The vast majority of the patients can be treated conservatively.
Persistent pain and neurological manifestation constitute the main indications for surgery in adult patients.
The cases were all of the first and second degree mobile spondylolithesis as confirmed by dynamic studies.
Spondylolisthesis is defined as a slipping forward of one vertebra on another. It is present in 5 to 6% of adult population. The vast majority of the patients can be treated conservatively. Persistent pain and neurological manifestation constitute the main indications for surgery in adult patients.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of surgical treatment of adult lumbar and lumbosacral spondylolisthesis using posterolateral fusion with pedicle screw rod system fixation. Twenty patients were included in this study. All the patients were subjected to complete clinical assessment, laboratory investigations and radiological assessment. All the patients reported chronic back pain and 50% (10 patients) reported motor deficit.
The cases were all of the first and second degree mobile spondylolisthesis as confirmed by dynamic studies.
