Abstract

Construction of the grid points is one of the most important steps that might be specified before starting the numerical solution of partial differential equation. in most cases, the domain of solution is irregular&hence the mesh is nonuniform. in order to simplify the domain of solution&have a uniform grid points, the physical domain is transformed into a rectangular domain. the original differential equations are also transformed to the computational domain&then solved on uniform grid points.
Adaptive grid generation is one of the most efficient techniques to find the numerical solution of partial differential equations. in the adaptive methods, the grid points are distributed in response to some measurements based on some properties of the solution such as gradient. in other words, these methods construct a finer grid points in the regions of large gradient.
in this thesis, we study some of the adaptive methods &apply these methods in solving some boundary value problems. also we apply the adaptive methods in solving NAVIER-STOKES equations in cavity, free surface, and water dam flow. in the free flow, we calculate the dynamic contact angle for some liquids as a one of the most important coating problems&the results are in a very good agreement with the experimental results
