Abstract

Formulation of some oxygenated gasoline’s accomplished using four refinery streams and some alcohol as oxygenates. Reformate, isomerate, light and heavy naphthas were the four refinery streams, while the employed alcohol oxygenates were: n-butanol and iso-butanol. Specifications of these blends were tested as density, Reid vapor pressure (RVP) values, Sulfur contents, copper corrosively and oxidation stability. ASTM distillation, Chemical compositions and the octane numbers were also determined. Also, driveability indexes were calculated from the volatility data. Tailpipe exhaust emission analysis were conducted on a test vehicle using [MAHA MGT5]. The test motor was a Fiat car model 131, 4 cylinders and Engine capacity 1600 cm3. This study aims to indicate the effect of alcohol oxygenates for enhancing octane number especially in the presence of light and heavy naphthas and its effect on reducing CO, HC’s, CO2 and NOx emissions.
