Abstract 97<Fast food being rich in saturated fatty acid is more common now among children and youth,that lead to increas ed incidence of hypercholesterolem ia and hyperlipidemia predisposing them to athe rosclerosis and heart disease.More researches were carried out to study the relation of som e foods (vegetables)and hypercholesterolemia to decrease the liver,kidney and heart diseases which result from precipitation of cholesterol in arteries.Accordingly,this study aimed to evaluatethe effect cholesterolemia on general health condition,and investigate the effect of some vegetables such as waterm elon,green pepper ,rocket and their blend,(2.5%) and (5%)level ,to com bat with hypercholesterolem ia via determ ation of som e biological param eters (body weight,food in take ,and food efficiency ratio ),biochemical parameters of serum (TC,TG,LDLC ,HDLC ,VLDLC ,total lipids and Risk Ratio)liver and renal function para meters (GPT,GOT,ALP,craetinine and urea),blood hemoglobin and also histopathological examination of liver and heart.The study was carried on fourty m ale adult albino rats,weighting (110 ±20)g for 7 weeks,The rats were divided by 4 rats ;the first group is the rats fed on basal diet all the tim e (28 days).The other rats consumed 1.5%pure cholesterol for three weeks to induce hypercholesterolem ia ,th en the hypercholesterolem ic rats were classified as control (+ve)group,and othe r eight groups were treated with one of SUMMARYb diets (2.5 and 5%)waterm elon ,(2.5 and 5%)green pepper ,rocket (2.5 and 5%)and (2.5 and 5%)blend of these vegetables .The hypercholesterolemic rats groups were< continuously fed on the basal diet with (1.5%)pure cholesterol for the four weeks . |
