Abstract The area lecated East the Suez Canal. i.e. , in S.nai Peninsula is charaeterized by conspicuous phywiographic features which are entirely differ~nt from those located on the eastern side. These features are reflected on soil formation, character- istics and distribution in such area • In the past, little attention has been devoted to the study of soils in this particular area. However, after the liberation of Sinai, the area was given due consideration.Speoial attention i2 paid to the agricultural development by the recent activities of governmental authorities related to The Ministry of Development and State for Housing and Land Reclamation. These activities inc- lude the soil survey of select~d localities in Sinai Peninsula. As the mineralogy of the clay fraction of soils control most of their characteristics and behaviour particularly in the medium and heavy textured soils, lack of information about the clay mineralogy dictates that it should be considered within the framework of a research proj~ct planned by the University of Sur Canal. |
