Abstract

Using a Robinson light-trap, a survey and population
studies of Coleopterous and Lepidopterous insects, during
two successive years 1984 - 1986, at AI-Arish city North
Sinai were carried out.
The results revealed the presence of 149 Coleopterous
species belonging to 108 genera within 30 families and 132
Lepidopterous species within 102 genera of 16 families,
they were alphabetically listed in the text. Of these
species 97 Coleopterous and 95 Lepidopterous species were
recorded for the first time in this area.
The relative atundance and fluctuation of population
of all Coleopterous and Lepidopterous families were prese-
nted and explained. It was noticed that beetles were most
acti ve from May to JI.ugust, while moths were more abundant
during spring and st~ar. Beetles and moths were in their
minimum population (luring winter period (December-January).
Scarabid and staphylinid beetles and noctuid and
pyralid moths were the most abundant families, both in
number of species and the number of individuals.
Also, the popuJ.ation dynamics, approximate number of
annual generations nnd the effect of some weather factors
on the flight activlty of some Lepidopterous and Coleopter-
ous species of econ()mic importance were studied in detailed.
