Abstract The current study was carried out at Ismailia Wastewater Treatment Plant, Serabium, to evaluate wastewater treatment efficiency by monthly recording of influent and effluent characteristics, during the period from 8/1999 to 7/2000 and the possibility .use of treated wastewater for corn irrigation. The following results were obtained: l-Treated wastewater (effluent) contains magnitude concentrations of total-N and- P, ammonia and available P. 2- With the exception of Ni, heavy metal concentrations were low as compared with the concentrations recommended values proposed for continuous irrigation. 3- Although wastewater treatment was effective in reducing microbial counts in reclaimed wastewater, microbial counts were still high as compared with safe levels or thresholds proposed by WHO (1989) guidelines. 4-Maize grain yield, shoot dry weight, ears and 1000-grain weight, grain NPK contents and uptake were significantly increased within all fertilization treatments irrigated by treated wastewater. |
