Abstract Phytophthora spp. are universally considered among the most common and destructive pathogens which cause various diseases such as blights, root and foot rots on several host plants. R. solan1, as one of the primitive and aggressive pathogenic fungi, infects numerous plants all over the world resulting in root rot, damping-off, or collar rot. Moreover, F. oxysporurn is considered the main cause of wilt disease and sometimes root rot on various hosts. The herein investi- gation was schemed for studying root, foot rots and/or wilt diseases of carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) caused by certain fungi. Incidence of the causal pathogenic fungi; their pathogenicities, saprophytic behaviour, interactions on agar plates in add! tion to other physiological. character- istics; certain factors affecting the diseases; as well as fungicidal and biological control of diseases under inve-stigated were concerned in this study. |
