Abstract
Watermelon Citrullus lanatus is one of the most popular vegetable
crops in Egypt. Genetic informations on watermelon could be obtained
from wide intervarietal’ crosses which need to be available before
proceeding with the formulation of appropriate breeding strategies to
.
develop high production, improved quality (me! desirable fruit shape.
Accordingally, the objectiveof the present investigation is to study
the genetic behaviour as well as combining ability effects for number of
morphological, yield and fruit quality traits in aset of five parents diallel
crosses of watermelon cultivars. Based on the results, it may be inferred
that improvement of yield and fruit quality of new watermelon cultivars
could be achieved by hybridization and selection.
