Abstract

This study included determination of the effect of Chlortetracycline in doses of 75 and 150 mg/kg B.wt. on the performance parameters (weight gain) and other serobiochemical parameters like transaminases activities, lipid profiles, serum urea, uric acid and creatinine, glucose and serum growth hormone level, also to detect the effects of chlortetracycline administration on histopathological findings of liver and kidney as target organs. On the other hand this study was conducted to detect chlortetracycline in hair of adult male albino rats treated with chlortetracycline daily for 6 weeks by oral route. A number of 90 adult male albino rats were used in this study, as they classed into 3 groups each of 30 rats. First group was treated orally with 75 mg/kg B.wt. while second group was treated orally with 150 mg/kg B.wt. daily for 6 successive weeks, while the third group kept as control. Blood, hair and histopathological samples were collected through the experimental period, the results reveals toxicological effects on body weight, serochemical parameters, which confirmed through histopathological findings, also the results concluded that chlortetracycline has a cumulative residual effects on different body tissues including hair proving that hair sample provides a durable sample for diagnosis of previous drug use in animal.
