Abstract

The contribution that product reseach has made to the quality of life are continually reinforced with the discovery of new and more effective drugs .the principal objective scendary metabolites from two red spoges .euryspongia specis and callyspongia siphonella. isolation of two compound s from the red sea sponge euryspongia speacies was performed.
the first isolated compound was identified to be cholesterol and this forms one source for medicial steroid semi-synthesis. the second isolated compound was assigned as 5a,8a dihydroxycholest-6-en-3-b-ol, this compound nether be isolated from any natyral source nor synthesized.ther for this compouned is considered as a new compound . cholesterol was again isolated from callysopongia together with anther compound assigned as ergosta -5,11-dien -3-b-ol.the latter was a new compound . identification of the former componds was carried by many spectroscopic approaches including 1D(1HAND 13C) AND 2d(cosy-hmqc, hmbc)nmr studies UVand mass spectroscpoiy.
the last target in thisi was the study of the biological activity of the isolated compounds.snice these compounds possess a steroidal nucleus the test was directed towards anti-inflammatory assays which proved the anti-inflammatory activity of the isolated compounds.
