Abstract

The English summary:
This thesis is interested in making a simple review for the statues of Ramesses II and their artistic features in Upper and Lower Egypt. The thesis begins in the first part with a historical introduction for King Ramesses II, his titles, his achievements as a great warrior and as a peace maker; it also includes his architectural achievements and his royal family. The second part focuses on the sculpture of the statues in Ancient Egypt from the Predynastic period to the Late period, and the characteristic elements of the royal statuary. It comprises the ancient Egyptian sculptors, the materials used in sculpture and the stages of manufacturing the statues. It also refers to the sculpture in the New kingdom, and focuses on the art in the Eighteenth Dynasty, and to what extent this art was affected by the works left by sculptors who lived during the reign of the previous kings. In the third part, there is a detailed description for the statues of Ramesses II in Lower and Upper Egypt. It also includes the artistic features of the royal statues of the Nineteenth Dynasty, and the schools of art during the reign of king Ramesses II in Tanis, Memphis and Karnak.
