Abstract In the recent decades, the increase and spread of industrialization in Egypt created severe pollution problems especially the pollution problems of water bodies which force the government to develop successive laws and specifications limiting the disposal of wastewaters into water bodies. The last act was No.48 for the year 1982 (Appendix) concerning the different type of wastewaters disposed into water bodies. This act includes the limiting permissible concentrations of several parameters guiding the degree of pollution of such wastewaters. Accordingly, series of research works, beginning nearly from year 1950 in many research centers in Egypt, to estimate the degree of pollution of several water bodies scattered on the Egyptian map were carried out. Among these water bodies was ”AbOU-Keer Bay” which is obviously severely affected by the disposal of wastewaters into it. The aim of this work is not to find a complete system for the treatment of wastewaters from pulp and paper industry, which resembles one of the most highly polluted wastes conveyed to the bay, but to decrease as possible the loads of pollutants derived from one of the biggest plant of pulp and paper industry from entering the bay. And so, a simple method of treatment with expected high efficiencies of removal of included pollutants, needs no specialized skills and relatively small land areas; was suggested to be examined in this thesis. |
