Abstract

The cbjective of this research work is to study ossbility ef improving the part load performance diesel electric turbocharged engine (operating at C0~stant speed), by using a second air driven ~he study was divided into two partsi:St, the conventional diesel engine cycle was ~cpresented mathematically and the mathematical model as i:nplemented in a computer progra.’l1. To test the program, the performance data obtained from the progra~ was compared with that of the actual engines.A good agreement was obtained, thus granting a validity to both the model and the computer program
(Chapter II).
Second, a new sequential turbocharging system was considered by adding an extra turbocharger to each consisting of a compressor driven by an airturbine. The suggested sequential turbocharging systemcomprises two compressors connected in series. The
mathematical model and the computer program were, therefore, modified so as to accornodate the sequential ~ur=0chargiung system.
The results obtained from the
:nodified program and th~ir cOITi;?arison with the actual pe:-formance br data of the engines re reported In
(Chapter Ill). The• comparison showed that the suggested sequential turbocharging system improved the
perfcrmance characteristics of both engines at part loads.
