Abstract ... .., ~. ~ .. §ummary: // In the present study, ”(26patients( undergoing open heart surgery were subjected to audiological evaluation pre and POStopenltively to study the effect of such operations on bearing and to explain the possible aetiology of occasional sudden hCarlng loss reported by others. Three groups we•re .developed, those with no loss (10 patients) , those with non singificant changes (11 patients) and those with average bearing defficit of 10 dB ( 2 pati~ ) . In all cases the changes occured bilaterally. Embolism seems to be unlikely aetiology of such hearing loss as all patients in our series were young with no arterioscIerotic cerebrovasular disease and bearing loss occlUed ~ralby. bi ~QttYA\lr ,, The perfusion failure theory seems to be a POssible exp~on of bearing loss as in all cases the affection was bilateraL However ototoxic drogs can not be excluded as a possible cause. |
