Abstract

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is part of computational mechanics, which in turn is part of simulation techniques. Nowadays industrial applications use CFD modeling to investigate problems and improve applicable designs.
This report is concerned with modeling and simulation of Relief Valves Fluid Structure Interaction using CFD. A pressure relief valve is a safety device designed to protect a pressurized vessel or system during an overpressure event. Any missing or fail of safety devices may lead to system failure accidents and therefore cost losses. Deep understanding of design and operational parameters applied makes the operating conditions safer.
Two valve models are developed to study the dynamic behaviors of safety relief valves. Using these models, the behaviors of the two models are simulated using FLUENT software package.
The dynamic responses of the two types of relief valve are discussed and compared to analyze the valve fluid structure interaction.
Finally, a parametric study is conducted using CFD modeling to investigate the effects of various parameters on the dynamic responses of both valves in an attempt to improve the performance of both valves.
