Abstract In this thesis the effect of drop size and edge beam in reinforced concrete flat slabs is studied. A -finite element computer programme simulating the elas¬tic theory of thin plates was prepared and used. The flat slab is considered rigidly jointed with columns. Each column is represented by two vertical plate elements perpendicular to each other, these two elements simulate the column stiffness in x- and y-directions. Both of the two vertical plate bending elements were related 90• to lie in the plane of plate. The stiffness of the two plate elements represent¬ing a column were made equal to the sum of stiffness upper and lower columns, in x- and y-direction, respec¬tively. The selected example to be investigated consisted of a roof formed of nine equal rectangular panels and subjected to uniform load equal to 1.0 t/m7 including own weight. All selected examples had the same drop thickness, 1.5 slab thickness, same panel area and the same volume of concrete. |
