Abstract

Immobilization and conditioning of low level waste
W) And intermediate level waste (ILW) are an important ps in any radioactive waste management programme. In this k low level liquid waste (LLLW), intermediate level liquid te (ILLW), ILLW-sludge and exhausted ion exchangers were
~bilized in ordinary Portland cement (OPC), blast furnace ig cement (BFS) and a blend of OPC/BFS. To improve the llity of the waste package, kemapoxy-150 (polymer) was led to OPC/ILLW and OPC/organic ion exchangers resins. tferent chemical addi ti ves as inorganic exchangers and ~ex were added to OPC to improve 137CS/OPC leachability. lpressi ve strength was measured as an indicator of the ~tian cements as a conditioning material, the parameters ’ecting compressive strength of the waste package were died taking into consideration the requirements during nsportation and disposal.
In parallel to the experimental work carried out, a oretical approach was elaborated to predict the behaviour l~CS leaching from the waste packages taking into ount the transportation mechanism of 137 Cs leached cies.
