Abstract The present thesis is concerned with the treatment of the properties of nylon 6 fibers having the trade name Misr¬t ylon by reaction with p-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride and iodine trichloride. An extensive literature on the modification of the properties of polyamides in order to produce fibers with new properties have reported. The importance of modifications of the properties of polyamide fibers is imparting crimp. chemical stability and fire-retardancy to them. The imparting crimp to polyamide fibers will increase its strength during spinning operations because of the increase of cohesion between fibers in yarns. The importance of a nylon monofilament to be crimped before being woven into cloth, is that this crimp formas resistance to yarn slipping out of the cloth and protruding through it.Polyeric materials with improved chemical- and fire resistant were obtained by introducing aromatic group, halogens to their chemical structure. The influence of an aromatic group in a linear polymer is to make the molecule more rigide, to increase the cohesive forces, and thereby improve fire- and chemical resistant. The use of p-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride (PNBSC) for improving of the properties of polyamides has not been appeared in the literature. Therefore, the study of the |
