Abstract The thesis reviews the state of the art concernig analysis he dynamic response of retaining walls subjected to earthquake dings in addition to a brief outline of the historical velopments in the field . Groups of crucial problem parameters lated to the soil profile and the wall geometry are identified and their effects on the response are studied Consideration is given to the effects of soil characteristion effect of boundary conditions and unit weight of wall . A theoritical study, of the dynamic behaviour of gravity retaining walls subjected to earthquake load was developed and presented . In this study finite element method has been used to evaluate earthquake pressures on gravity retaining wall supporting in a soil which remains in an elastic state during an earthquake equ of motion of the soil-wall system are employed The at These equations are solved, in time domain using the classical modal analysis, and the finite element method was used to compute normal mode solutions for a rigid wall problem . A problem that was considered to be of practical interest was the analysis of earthquake induced soil pressures on soil-supporting wall as a result of relatively small displacement of the wall and inertia body forces within the wall and the soil layer |
