Abstract Aim of the work Is to study the use of both the functional disability and the radiological changes as measures for disease outcome in RA patients attending the out-patient clinic of the rheumatology department in Minia University Hospital and the study also aim to study the effects of age, sex, medications and the disease duration of the functional disability and radiological joint involvement in patients with RA. Conclusion The evidence point to a relatively strong and probably causal relationship between joint damage and subsequent disability. The joint damage and also function disability increase with disease duration, and with increase the age of the patients. The use of methotrexate, chloroquine but not steroids is associated with less radiological damage; however none of these drugs is associated with better functional outcome. Recommendations The evaluation of joint damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis radiological should be done by plain X-Ray which is inexpensive, easy to generate, widely available and accepted, also give rapid results and provide a permanent record. Radiographs are reducible, allow measurement of severity, and can identify single point damage and progression with fairly high precision and accuracy. The evaluation of function disability may do by Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) which widely used easy and accurate questionnaire. |
