Abstract MANY OBSTACLES ARE FACED IN REMOVING THE BURIED LANDMINES SUCH AS THE LOSS OR ABSENCE OF MAPS OR INFORMATION ABOUT THESE MINES AND THE HIGH FINANCIAL COSTS NEEDED TO REMOVE THESE MINES. SO THAT MANY TECHNIQUES WERE DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED FOR DEMINING (DETECTING AND CLEARING) THESE BURIED MINES.EACH TECHNIQUE HAS SOME STRENGTHS AND DRAWBACKS.THIS THESIS PRESENTS A SURVEY ON THE LANDMINE DETECTION TECHNIQUES, THE STRENGTHS AND LIMITATION OF THESE TECHNIQUES ARE HIGHLIGHTED AND COMPARED TO SHOW THE IDEAL CONDITIONS AND THE CHALLENGES FACING EACH TECHNIQUE. FURTHERMORE, A COMPARISON BETWEEN THESE TECHNIQUES from THE POINNTS OF VIEW OF COST, COMPLEXITY, SPEED, SAFETY, FALSE, FALSE ALARMS IN DETECTION AND THE EFFECT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS IS PRESENTED. ONE OF THERELIBLE AND POWERFUL LANDMINE DETECTION TECHNIQUES IS THE LASER DOPPLER VIBROMETER (LDV)-BASED ACOUSTIC TO SEIMIC (A/S) LANDMINE DETECTION SYSTEM. |
