Abstract

Aim of the work
The aim of this work is to assess the disease activity and functional disability in patients with JIA, and to determine correlations between disease activity parameters and functional disability measures.
Conclusion and recommendations
From this study we concluded that:
The latest ILAR criteria of 1998 are better to be used of for classification and diagnosis of patients with JIA.
The assessment of child with JIA is focused on the measurement of disease activity is better to combine both clinical examination and laboratory parameters than using each of them alone. DAS28 is a valuable measure for assessment of the disease activity than traditional measures (e.g. RAI).

The Arabic version of the Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ) is a validated and valuable method for assessment of functional disability in JIA patients than ACR functional class.
Functional disability in JIA patients may be predicted by disease duration and disease activity.
We recommend that; JIA patients with polyarticular RF+ve onset subtype which had the highest impact of the disease requiring early intervention and close monitoring.
Also, we recommend that corticosteroids are to be considered of limited use in JIA patients. Follow up and close monitoring to prevent joint damage and deformities with the consequent disability is essential.
