Abstract

Due to the numerous advantages of SAW filters,which include small size, easy manufature, low cost, and linear performance while achieving the same response as the con
ventional filters which are composed of separate circuit components (capacitance,inductance and resistance filters), we can replaced the conventional filter by the SAW filters.
This thesis studies the SAW filters-with emphasis on the second order effects. These effects play a major role in the shape of the response curve with frequency. Also , the possibility of replacing one of the conventional filters in a radar station by an SAW filter having the same charac¬teristics .
The thesis contains six chapters, chapter one includes the defin-it-_’Lun a-f--th-c_SAW regarding its characteristics. and some common basic information in constructing the SAW devi¬ces which use a substrate. This substrate determines the size of the device and the wavelength which are determined from its physical characteristics. A transducer is then mounted on the substrate. This chapter also reviews the. different applications of the SAW filters especially in the VHF/UHF.
Chapter two shows the effect of the transducer in changing the fingers dimensions, their number, and the over¬lap between them in a response curve. This effect was also
