Abstract

Subacute ruminal acidosis is one of the most important diseases in fattening farms especially which depended on the highly concentrated ration with high percent of easily fermented carbohydrates and low percents of physical effective fiber . This disease has highly important effect on daily gain and daily consumption of ration as well as general health of calves. Its importance due to the hidden nature in the field except some signs which may present in the affected farm as laminitis, bloat, diarrhea as well as decreased daily gain. So the present study aimed to:
1-Detect the prevalence of SARA in seven farms in Sharkia and Ismalia governorates through estimation of ruminal pH with relation to some ruminal fluid parameters such as acetate, propionate, acetate/propionate ratio, butyrate, valerate, total VFA concentration and total lactate , serum parameters such as total protein(TP), glucose(SG), betahydroxy butyrate(BHB),non esterified fatty acids(NEFA), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), gamma glutamyl transaminase(GGT) and glutamate lactic dehdrogenase(GLDH). and correlation between ruminal pH and these parameters and daily gain through examination of randomly chosen 185 fattening calves.
2- Abattoir survey on the slaughtered calves ( when possible ) for detection of the percent of ruminal lesion and liver abscesses with relation to SARA . Also isolation and identification of causative agent and make susceptibility test .
