Abstract A comparative study of bacteriophages of Rhizobium leguminosarum in soils of Egypt and Britain was carried out. Soil samples from rhizosphere of vicia fabae and root nodules were collected from three Egyptian Governorates (Minia, Gharbya and kafr El Shikh, from Scotland (Glasgow area) and from England (Barrow, Cumbria and wrelton ,Yorkshire ). The pHs of all the soil samples were measured . they ranged from 8.0 to 8.5 in the Egyptian soils, and from 5.9 to 7.2 in the British soils. Thirty isolates of R. leguminosarum were used as hosts . Twenty were isolated from root nodules of vicia fabae collected from Egypt (E1-R10), and from Scotland (R11-R20) .another ten isolates (E1-R10) were supplied by the agricultural Research center (bacteria lab.) sakha Egypt . Rhizobiophages were enriched from soil samples using as host a mixture of all thirty Rhizobium isolates .hach of the thirty isolates of Rhizobium was tested separately ,as indicator bacteria, in individual plants. The results indicated that rhizobiphages were present in all the soil samples under study. The single plaque isolation technique was used to urify phages. |
