Abstract

This report presents a number of factors that must been taken into consideration when building H.V substation the most important factors are the touch and step voltage,the suitable solution for this problem specially when touch and step voltage reach critical voltage. The report discusses the effect of soil type, conductor type on the grounding system design.
It studies the effective factors in the current flowing in human body such as frquency ,current magnitude, its duration time and body resistance .the report discusses the how to choose the conductor cross section and the factors
Affecting in conductor choosing such as symmetrical and asymmetrical current also the heat that the conductor withstand .
The soil characteristics and the meyhods of soil resistivity measurments have been studied .The factor affecting in the maximum current in the grounding grid as the fault type,location,ground grid resistance and fault resistance.
All factors affecting in the ground grid desin such as fault time,soil resistivity,surface layer material and geometrical shape of ac substation area.
The procedure of grid design has been studied in details.
Finally a computer program helping in the desin process by calculating the maximum fault ,grid resistance,tolerable step voltage,tolerable touch voltage and gives the user the result of design.
