Abstract The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of form error (out-of-roundness) associated with the parts of the press-tit assembly (shaft and hub) on the actual interference value existing between the fitted surface, as well as its effect on the resulting distribu¬tion of the deformations and hence, on the accuracy of the press-fit assembly. The study of the elastic deformation distribution over the fitted parts due to the press-fitting was tackled using the finite-element method using a triangular element with linear displacement field. The approach of this method for the present problem is firstly to set up the stiffness matrix for both the shaft and hub and relate them in one stiffness matrix. An equivalent contact load at the fitted surface corresponding to the existing interference value is determined. Then, the displacement-force relation¬ship is applied to determine the required elastic deforma¬tions distribution. A computer program has been formulated for the solution • The accuracy ot the finite-element results depend on the number of element & the mesh pattern. |
