Abstract In many industries, chemical engineer has to deal with solid-liquid systems such as slurries, suspensions and coll¬oidal solutions. Despite the importance of these systems in industry, little has been done on the study of their trans¬port properties which are essential in the rational design and operation of such systems. The present work is concerned with the study of diff.usion of some solutes in dilute clay suspensions.Ammonium nitrate was chosen to represent electrolytic solutes and urea was chosen to represent non electrolytic solutes. The porous frit technique was chosen to conduct the resent study owing to its relative simplicity, rapidity 7nd low sources of error compared to other techniques such as the Stokes diffusion cell or the Capillary method. |
