Abstract Concrete is favored as a construction material in marine environmets for many reasons. It is composed of readily available materials, which can be used with a minimum of technical skill as compared with other building materials. It is fire resistant, it may be used with complete assurance, in the air, under ground, and under water. Construction units may be cast-in-place or precast, its compressive strength C up to 500 kg/cm2 ) is ample for most purposes. It is possible to produce concrete for marine structures which will endure without failure at least 50 years with no sign of deteriàration in that interval.Concrete can be successfully placed under wter, above water, or between tides. ReconTnendations herein emphasize the necessity of proper proportioning and good workmanship in order to provide the dense, impervious concrete, having a minimum permeability and water absorption characteristics so necessary for endurance. It is well known that the concrete structures under. |
