Abstract
The arabic language is spoken by more than 150 million people and Lt is to present in the actual modern life of computer communnication automated office... etc. Some reaserches are needed to enable the interface between t,-I(- ”processIng machine” and the arabic language to achieve better development of the arab world. For this reason this thesis is devoted to the application of digital processing of speech signal on some arabic sounds which are not present in the english language .
Some speech signal processing applications such as
analysis- synthesis (vocoders) ,speech coding before the
introduction of vector quantization (VQ) technique were
language independent
Vector quantization is used in the previous applications to reduce the bit rate The use of vector quantization necessitates the construction of a codebooll, which is language dependant . In this thesis an arabic codebook for the male sounds is constructed using eight arabic sounds which are not present in the english language These sounds are the seven emphatic phonemes and the phoneme /L_/,with the three main vowels /a/ //i/ ,/u/ which are pre- or post these phonemes.
